Prima edizione francese di questo celebre racconto di viaggio che partendo dall'Inghilterra portò i viaggiatori attraverso il Sud America, le Isole del Mare del Sud, il Giappone, la Cina, Ceylon e Suez a fare il giro del mondo in barca. Il pubblico vittoriano accolse (1839-1887) i libri di Annie Brassey con un entusiasmo enorme. L’autrice divenne una dei più celebri autori di scritti di viaggio dell’ottocento. Morì nel 1887 durante uno dei suoi spostamenti.
