Front fly leaf worn text is unmarked bright paper very minor foxing. 294 pages plus Contents page. PROVENANCE: From paste down has Chippendale armorial bookplate of the original owner Robert Gorges Dobyns Yate esq. of Bromesberrow 1752-1785; who married Annabella Christiana Honywood in 1775 only daughter of William Honywood esq. of Malling Abbey in Kent. His name in hand written on the front flypaper "B. Yate. 1773. Below this is the signature of his wife with the date of 1785 the year of her husband's death. Another ink note further below I am unable to read. The title page has inked initial on the upper margin. <br /> <br/><br/>Questions welcome. Images can be made upon request. Yacht shots interior shots and composites; and plenty of these shots incorporating stunningly beautiful Italian models in the most expensive and lovely expressions of high fashion apparel - women who do belong on these luxuriant yachts. Light gray softcovers illustrated cover art in red & black on front cover very slight soiling to upper right corner first leaf and front cover still VG copy. First edition thus of this scarce catalogue for the kits and plans of Ice Boats and Ice Yachts such as the Batwing III and Batwing IV “Cyclone†Mead Motor-Sleds Mead Ki-Yaks Pollywogs and the “Rhon Ranger†gliders. The Cyclone is of special attention as it was a 10 foot long Ki-Yak canvas covered spruce sled based on a biplane fuselage propeller and often fitted with Harley-Davidson engines. These motor-sleds were often raced on the frozen Great Lakes and although temperamental and prone to breakdowns could achieve astonishing speeds. The Rhon Ranger and Mead Challenger C-3 gliders were very popular with gliding enthusiasts in the U.S. and abroad from 1931 until World War II with the Challenger’s normal flying speed of 30 m.p.h. and wing span of 38 feet. Bound in full tan calf with gilt-titled leather labels on the spine. The covers are rubbed and soiled and the spine is scuffed. 327 and 259 pages respectively. A previous owner's name with the date of acquisition is penned on the front endpaper. The pastedowns endpapers and preliminary pages are heavily foxed. There is some lighter occasional foxing throughout. There is a small piece out front the top corner of one page not affecting the text. A tear to pages v & vi of the second book has been repaired with clear archival document tape. There are occasional marginal annotations in pencil. Good. <p>First American edition.<p>John Yate Lee's "A Treatise on the Evidence of Abstracts of Title to Real Property" precedes "George Hewit Oliphant's "The Law Concerning Horses Racing Wagers and Gaming".<p>Chapter 3 of the second book i.e. "The Law Concerning Horses Racing Wagers and Gaming" includes material of veterinary interest under the heading "What Diseases orf Bad Habits Constitute Unsoundness or Vice". This chapter includes information of "Backing and Gibbing" "Blindness" including cataracts "Broken knees" "Capped Hocks" "Dropsy of the Heart" "Hereditary Diseases" etc. Chapter 8 outlines the law as it pertains to "Innkeepers Farriers Trainers and Stallion-Masters". Stanier was a renowned Canadian biologist who studied under C. B. van Niel after taking a PhD at Stanford. He made numerous studies of bacteria and helped create a biological definition of bacteria as a group. For his contributions he was awarded the Eli Lilly Award of the American Society for Microbiology 1950. Among the co-authors is Melvin Calvin who was awarded the 1961 Nobel Prize for Chemistry.
