Worldcat shows only Navy Department and Mariner's Museum holding copies of "Supplementary and Final Report" of the 1885 America's Cup race in which the American yacht "Puritan" defeated the English challenger "Genesta." This pamphlet officially confirms the American yacht's victory. It is related to the "Brenton's Reef" pamphlet which we also offer for sale because the English yacht "Genesta" after being defeated in the 1885 America's Cup races participated in the Brenton's Reef race a couple of weeks later and was victorious against the American yacht "Dauntless." 19019The three items on letterheads of Beckbury Hall Shifnal. Postcard: 5 March 1915. Letters: 10 and 13 December 1916. According to his long obituary in The Times 13 June 1929 'Central Asian Politics' Yates's 'studies of the affairs of the Indian borderland Central Asia and the Middle East were probably excelled by few retired officers of the Indian Army in wealth of detail and personal knowledge of events and personalities spread over the last half-century'. See also his long entry in Who Was Who. The three items are in fair condition on aged and worn paper with rusting from paperclip. They carry the stamp and docketing of the Society. The card - signed 'A. C. Yate Lt. Col.' - concerns 'the corrected proof of my lecture on "The Indian Army"'. Both letters totalling 3pp. 12mo concern the manuscript of a lecture he proposes giving - following 'a little discussion' at St John's Gate - on the work of the Indian branch of the Red Cross as 'the Society of Arts meditate a lecture on the Ambulance Work of the War'. Accompanying the three items is a Typed Letter Signed 1p. 4to to Wood from Major W. O. Prichard Chief Secretary The St. John Ambulance Association 28 December 1916 on its St John's Gate letterhead sending at Yate's request a copy of the annual report of the Indian Branch which shows 'what wonderful work has been done by the representatives of the Association in India both in connection with the war and among the civil population'.
