8vo., Fourth Impression, with a double-page map; handsomely bound in navy blue full morocco, back with raised bands, second compartment lettered in gilt, all other compartments tooled in gilt, gilt top, blue ribbon marker, a most attractive copy ideal as a gift or for presentation. Published four months after the first edition and the last impression issued in the year of first publication. The finest novel of the Royal Navy in WWII and a maritime classic. The story, based upon the author's own experiences, formed the basis of Charles Frend's notable feature film starring Jack Hawkins in one of his most memorable roles. So accurate is its depiction of the Battle of the Atlantic that it is one of the very few works of fiction admitted by Law to his standard bibliography The Royal Navy in World War Two. Law, 1865

8vo., First Edition, with 32 plates on 16 and a full-page map in the text; original pictorial wrappers printed in red and black, wire-stitched as issued, a near fine copy. Known by mariners the world over as the 'Flying Angel' (from the device on its ensign), the 'Mission' made an invaluable contribution to the welfare of RN and merchant seamen during WWII. This fragile publication provides a deceptively detailed account of the 'Angel's' global effort; sadly, few copies seem to have survived, let alone in anything like this condition. Noble was C-in-C Western Approaches from February 1941 to November 1942. A rare survival.
