The aircraft employed Pratt & Whitney R-2000-2SD13-G Twin Wasp 14-cylinder air-cooled radial piston engines which each developed 1450 HP for take-off. The DC-4/C-54 proved a popular and reliable type 1245 being built between May 1942 and August 1947 including 79 postwar DC-4s. As the brochure begins "In these pages Douglas presents its latest and finest commerical air transport the world-famous DC-4. . From nose to tail the DC-4 is modern efficient pacemaking. New comfort speed and safety for 42 passengers and a crew of five the new 'Tri-Safety' landing gear and new standards of engineering and craftsmanship make the DC-4 the outstanding airplane of its time."
