First edition of this very rare post-World War II catalogue touting the advantages for airlines and airliner manufacturers to use “Aviations oldest and largest maintenance and supply company.†Founded originally in the 1920’s the PAC was one of the first of 145 repair stations set-up by the Federal Aviation Administration and was the first authorized turbine overhaul facility. They overhauled the engines for Amelia Earhart’s Lockheed Electra and during World War II part of the facility served as an assembly center for the illegal forced relocation and internment of Japanese-Americans in Southern California. The catalogue displays the vast space they had for overhauling engines repairing Lockheed R6V Constitution airliners and huge amounts of parts and merchandise.No copies in Worldcat. Second edition of this rousing first-hand memoir of one of Sir Taylor’s flights with Kingsford Smith flying the Lady Southern Cross in their Lockheed Altair monoplane making the first eastward trans-Pacific flight from Australia to the United States in October-November 1934. They experienced bad weather over Fiji struggled through repairs to the fuel and oil systems in Hawaii but arrived safely in Oakland Nov. 4 1934. Long pencil notation to verso presumably detailing a streetcar trip in San Francisco "Up Market down Van Ness -- Outer zone -- down Zone. avenue to aviation field -- around field -- many pictures. Art stood all way". Slight crease near one corner else remarkably well-preserved. A rare promotional piece for Silas Christofferson and the Christofferson Aircraft Manufacturing Co. advertising aviation as "a safe and sane sport". Free exhibitions were offered daily "at the beach" presumably near the Christofferson hangar on Ocean Drive at Sloat Boulevard. Silas Christofferson was with his brother Harry one of the "early birds of aviation" and became known for such feats as flying in 1912 from the top of the Multnomah Building in Portland Oregon to the Vancouver barracks eight miles away. That year both he and the Christofferson Aircraft Mfg. Co. set up shop in San Francisco which is why we date this handbill to around that time. Christofferson died in a plane crash in 1916. Sill this 2nd Lieutenant from Kansas worked on reconnaissance infantry contact puff target sketching railroad yards machine gun proficiency. He then transferred to the School of Aerial Gunnery at Selfride Field Michigan from 9/30/18 to 10/19/18. All courses are listed with hours spent grading signed by instructors. Laid-in are orders to report to Selfride Field and a letter dated October 19 1918 naming the log's owner as being now rated as an Aerial Observer.
