Set of 54 cards with black and white photographs on one side and silhouette images of British warships and aircraft on the other side. Each card marked RESTRICTED and date August 1944. Believed to be a complete set of 54 cards comparable to a playing card deck with 52 standard cards and two additional cards/jokers. Box has some wear and soiling. The Bureau of Aeronautics BuAer was the U.S. Navy's material-support organization for naval aviation from 1921 to 1959. The bureau had "cognizance" i.e. responsibility for the design procurement and support of naval aircraft and related systems. Aerial weapons however were under the cognizance of the Navy's Bureau of Ordnance BuOrd. World War II brought immense changes as well. BuAer was forced to expand rapidly in order to comply with the nation's defense needs. By the war's end the bureau had developed an administrative structure that oversaw thousands of personnel and the procurement and maintenance of tens of thousands of aircraft. In 1943 the Navy established the position of Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Air or DCNOAir a move which relieved some of BuAer's responsibility for Fleet operations. RADM McCain now promoted to vice admiral was the first to fill the position. It is likely that this set was produced to be used in the European Theater possibly in connection with the invasion of the German homeland. As a whole good though grubby but some items with pin holes closed tears etc. Most bearing the R.S.A. stamp and some docketed. Three items with enclosures. The items are dry communications relating to the arranging of R.A.S. lectures at the R.S.A. premises at the Adelphi except for one item 12 May 1931 beginning 'I have received a number of letters from various members of the Society and others complaining of the lantern and cinema projector at the Royal Society of Arts . under the impression that we own both these and that we should get better instruments.' An enclosed copy of a letter from Gerald Merton 7 May 1931 begins 'I have often intended to convey you a grouse I have. At last I summon enough energy to write it.' This describes the lantern show as 'the worst effort I have ever come across . For learned societies of such standing to use such an apparatus is a disgrace.' Between 1931 and 1934; all on letterhead of the Royal Aeronautical Society, of which Pritchard was secretary. unknown

The reverse side has an outer ring of text that states: Excellence Achieved By Those Who Believed NASA Commemorative. There is a striking image of the Launch Vehicle with Orbiter attached lifting off with the plume billowing at the bottom. The text on the right states: This medallion contains metal flown on the historic Space Shuttle Mission Complete. Both shuttle medals Mission Complete and Legacy celebrate the winged spacecraft and the program's 30 years of innovation and service. These official medallions were minted with metal from the same ingots used for the framed editions that were flown on a shuttle mission. Each medallion features a full color embedded insert of the official Space Shuttle Program Commemorative insignia. Official NASA Mission Complete Medallion in silver contains flown metal material! This official Mission Complete Medallion is 1.75" and commemorates the historic completion of the Space Shuttle Program. Green and Red Civil Airways- eastbound odd thousand foot levels; westbound even thousand foot levels. Amber and Blue Airways- northbound odd thousand foot levels; southbound even thousand foot levels. This comprehensive plan enabled the commerce of the sky to operate in an orderly manner. There were a few planes that were pressurized in 1941. The bulk of flights took place below today's heights. This map is dated June 1 1941.
