286 pages. Footnotes. Index. Black and white illustrations. "Set against the backdrop of northern lights and barren lands, the story of Ted Nagle's life is rich in anecdote, adventure and intrigue. Born in Hay River in 1898, the son of a free trader, Nagle became a key player in the race to own the north's vast mineral resources. As he moved forward by canoe, on foot, and then by bush plane, Nagle recorded the personalities and events he found 'down to north'. His careful observations reflect the natural and social history north of 60 degrees in the first third of the twentieth century." - from dust jacket.
