Alexandra David-Néel, esploratrice e scrittrice francese, consacrò la sua lunga vita ai viaggi e allo studio delle filosofie orientali. Nel 1889 si trasferì a Parigi presso la Società Teosofica, alla quale si era iscritta. Nel 1890, grazie all’eredità lasciatale dalla nonna materna, trascorse un anno in India percorrendola in lungo e in largo. In questo stesso viaggio conoscerà colui che diventerà il suo maestro, Swami Bhaskarânanda. Scrisse più di trenta libri di viaggi e sul buddismo, ma divenne famosa soprattutto per la sua visita a Lhasa nel 1924.

Prima edizione francese di "In the Forbidden Land" (London, Heinemann, 1898) a cura di Henri Jacottet. Pittore, antropologo, scrittore, giornalista e fotografo, Arnold Henri Savage Landor viaggiò per buona parte della sua vita in più continenti, in quest'opera racconta della sua prima esplorazione in Tibet, nel 1897, paese all'epoca ancora chiuso al mondo esterno ed ostile verso gli stranieri che ne varcavano i confini. Ex libris ed etichetta coeva di legatoria spagnola al risguardo anteriore. Bell'esemplare, stampato su carta patinata, ottimo stato di conservazione. Peso di spedizione : 1500 g
