An elegant map with great detail prepared for John Thomson's influential "New General Atlas" 1814-1821. There is some minor foxing to the first few leaves. A very attractive book.</p><p>First Brussells edition. First published in Paris in 1838.</p><p>The introduction is subtitled "Instruction Paternelle a Leon et a Therese". The chapters are titled: "De l'eglise" "Du palais" "Des assemblees" "Des soirees" "Des diners" "Des visites" "De la Conversation" "Des sejours a la campagne" "Des voyages" "Des parents" "Des amis" "Des domestiques" "De soir pour les garcons" "De soir pour les filles".</p><p>Near the end of the work she gives this piece of advice: " Il est tres-doux d'avoir des gens autour de soi et de se voir epargner mille petites peines mais il faut savoir se passer du service d'autrui".</p><p>The countess of Bradi a friend of Madame de Genlis wrote works for young people short stories and manuals on politeness and the art of writing. She was raised harshly it is said by her cavalry captain father.
