103603Zürich Paranoia City 1990. 4° 65 S. zahlr. Abb. Brosch. Tadellos.

1973372076Theatrum Orbis Terrarum New York & Amsterdam 1973. Hardcover. Good Condition. Escalante is not known to have visited China. In the concluding section of his Discurso he clarifies that his primary role is that of a synthesizer. His literary references were mainly Portuguese particularly the 1569 work by Dominican Gaspar de Cruz who spent a month preaching in Guangzhou and the account of China found in the third decade of Joo de Barros's Dcadas da sia published in 1563. Barros himself never traveled to Asia; however he had access to Chinese texts and a literate Chinese slave in his Lisbon office who could read and interpret them. Additionally Escalante conducted interviews with Portuguese merchants who had journeyed to the Chinese coast as well as some individuals from China who had arrived in Spain. Approximately 48 pages.
