Tomi X-XIII della “Raccolta de’ viaggi.. nelle varie parti del mondo.. dopo quelli di Cook, e non pubblicati fin ora in lingua italiana”. Volume pubblicato col concorso della Società Geografica Italiana. Diario di viaggio del naturalista Leonardo Fea, frutto di quattro anni di esplorazioni in Birmania dedicati alla raccolta ed alla preparazione di esemplari zoologici, dal maggio 1885 al marzo 1889. Dedica autografa dell'Autore ad Odoardo Beccari sul frontespizio. Volume ben conservato in bella e solida legatura.

One of the earliest published maps of the kingdoms of Burma from the rare first edition of Langenes' "Caert-thresoor" published in 1598. <br> <br>"Arakan was a proficient sea power shielded from attacks from Pegu by the Arakan Yoma Range and wielded considerable influence over neighbouring Chittangong which Portugal had claimed as a vassal state since 1459. Although early relations between Portugal and Arakan were marred by mutual distrust piracy and looting during the latter part of the sixteenth century Portugal aligned itself with Arakan and Chittagong to subdue Pegu. This alliance led to the tragic devastation of Pegu by the Arakanese-Chittagongese-Portuguese triangle in 1599-1600 just after the publication of the Langenes map. Condizioni molto buone per questa che è una delle migliori descrizioni della Birmania a metà dell'800. “Padre Gallo (1817-1863) Sacerdote della Congregazione degli Oblati di Maria Vergine, missionario. Nato a Carignano (TO), morto a Nizza Marittima. rimase in missione tre anni, dal 1843 al 1846: un anno e mezzo a Madras e il resto in Ava e Pegù (Birmania). Raccolse molte notizie storiche, geografiche e di costume che poi inserì nella sua Storia del Cristianesimo nell'impero barmano, uscita a Milano nel 1863.”
