20898Bangkok 3 May.c.1887. Postal Card UPU 4 atts surcharge 3 x 5 inches fine. A recent discovery. Jennie Nielsen was a Danish nurse who came to Bangkok in 1884 and initially started a boys school in Phetchaburi province. After falling severely ill she received treatment in Bangkok by the American doctor Heyward Hays who was in charge of the Siamese Navy Hospital. Dr. Hays successfully cured Nielsen and the two were married in 1887. In 1892 Nielsen and her husband along with Scottish doctor Peter Gowan founded one of Thailands first modern pharmacies the British Dispensary. Jennie was also active within culture and arts and she was one of the pioneers of the Bangkok Ladies Library Association where she served as president three times.Jennie unexpectedly passed away in 1920. To honour his late wife Dr. Hays built The Neilson-Hays Library in her memory. The library located on Surawongse Road is still in operation today and has one of the largest collections of English language titles in Bangkok open to the general public. unknown

Vajiravudh 1881-1925 Rama VI was King of Siam now Thailand from 1910 until his death. He succeeded his father King Chulalongkorn. Prince Vajiravudh was born on 1 January 1881 to Chulalongkorn and one of his four queens Saovabha. In 1888 upon coming of age Vajiravudh received the title Krom Khun Thep Dvaravati. He was firstly educated in the Royal Palace in Siamese and English language. He continued his education in Britain at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 1891 and became part of Durham Light Infantry Regiment upon graduation. In 1894 his half-brother Crown Prince Vajirunhis died. Vajiravudh was then appointed the new Crown Prince of Siam. He studied in law and history at Christ Church Oxford in 1899. However he suffered the appendicitis that barred him from personally receiving the graduation in 1901. Crown Prince Vajiravudh returned to Siam in 1902. unknown
