203 p. + Photo illustrations. Foxed. Large 8vo. 230 mm. Original full cloth binding; somewhat worn. Ellen Forest was a pseudonym of the mythologist and writer Lucy Mary Franssen (1878-1959). She published earlier as Lucy d'Audretsch. She was initially married to art dealer Herman d'Audretsch. After their separation she married the Japanologist Prof. J.L. Pierson. This book is an account in Dutch of a journey from Europe, through Egypt to Southeast Asia (Vietnam; Thailand; Cambodia; Angkor Wat; etc.). It comes from the period when she and her husband were friends with Mussolini, and were committed to Italian fascism. Our facility with the Dutch language is poor, but we are sure that her political leanings come out in this curious personal account of travel. NW17
