br. Quando, nel 1972, Tiziano Terzani arrivò in Vietnam, era un giovane corrispondente "ottimista, sorridente e speranzoso". Consegnò la propria esperienza di testimone della guerra al diario che l'anno dopo apparve col titolo di "Pelle di leopardo". Si ritrovò di nuovo in Vietnam nel 1975, e fu uno dei pochissimi giornalisti occidentali testimoni della liberazione di Saigon. "Giai Phong!", pubblicato nel 1976, ricostruisce i retroscena diplomatici e di guerra di quei mesi febbrili. Riproposti insieme, con una nuova introduzione dell'autore, i due libri, scritti letteralmente tra due fuochi, descrivono non solo le battaglie e gli orizzonti della guerra, ma anche la sofferenza delle popolazioni civili, il cambiamento materiale e morale dopo la fine degli scontri, tra fabbriche e chiese, rancori e perdoni. Appassionante resoconto di un viaggiatore instancabile, testimonianza preziosa per capire il passato, documento ormai storico, che va oltre la guerra, il tempo ci riconsegna queste pagine nella loro intatta verità e bellezza, come accade soltanto ai veri scrittori.

La Thatcher dichiarò Hong Kong ‘porto di primo asilo’ ma la buona intenzione provocò un enorme flusso di rifugiati: prima perseguitati politici e poi economici, noti come i ‘boat people.’ Sbarcati venivano rinchiusi in grandi campi di raccolta nei quali alcuni restarono per vent’anni, rifiutando di essere rimpatriiati (wiki).
