Per cinque anni, dal 1835 al 1839, l'allora capitano Moltke fu destinato dal governo prussiano in Turchia al servizio del Sultano Mahmud come consigliere militare. Le lettere, scritte ad amici e familiari, sono impressioni di viaggio sui principati Danubiani, su Costantinopoli, sulla Bulgaria, sull'Asia Minore e contengono descrizioni su natura, topografia, mitologia, storia, delle parti più remote dell'Impero ottomano e relazioni di spedizioni militari in Kurdistan. Prima edizione italiana. Volume ben conservato.
