A crowd of villagers is immersed in the daily business and social routine. Sacks of grain are stacked beside a mud village wall and people stop to speak to each other. In the background a wind tower typical of Yazd region and Southern Iran rises over the village. In the second image a caravan of camels rests wearing saddles and bridles having completed the day's journey. The camels rest in the courtyard of an Iranian village with a group of villagers gathered in the background. Scarce and in very good condition. unknown books

A career French diplomat he was dismissed in 1933 he fled to the US in 1940 and became an advisor to FDR. His writings were burned by the Vichey government. This is a fascinating album of striking images of daily life in Iran captured by American soldiers during the 1940's. It is rare to find an album with so many local photographs of the region and people. Some of the images include architectural structures the ruins of Dezful the Ancient Dezful bridge sweeping mountain landscapes a camel caravan local Persians outside and inside their homes in traditional dress street views and bazars from Dezful & Andimeshk locals bathing and taking the train and battleships docked in the Persian Gulf. Some light wear and soiling to edges but images generally clean and crisp. An altogether fascinating look at life in Iran 80 years ago. In very good condition. unknown books
