Translated into German from the original Hebrew by Gershom Scholem, founder of the modern academic study of Kabbalah, who requested to remain anonymous because he did not agree with how the book was used as Zionist propaganda. A memorial book to several early Palestinian settlers who died with short biographies of each of them, some with illustrated portraits. Martin Buber was an Austrian-born Israeli Jewish philosopher best known for his philosophy of dialogue, a form of existentialism centered on the distinction between the I-Thou relationship and the I-It relationship (Wikipedia, 2016) .
