Today the SAJBD [South African Jewish Board of Deputies] represents nearly all of the Jewish community institutions and synagogues, works as a watchdog against anti-Semitic articles in the media, examines legislation concerning the Jewish community and maintains contact with Diaspora communities world-wide, as well other political and religious organizations in South Africa. Examine political, economic, and social conditions in Palestine as they related to Jewish immigration and the well-being of current inhabitants; 2. Examine the condition of Jews in Europe and assess their desire to relocate to Palestine; 3. Hear the views of Arabs and Jews on the problems of Palestine and recommend solutions; 4. Make any recommendations required to deal with issues arising in point 2. The Committee was given only 120 days to complete this work. Their report is clearly and concisely presented and makes for most fascinating reading. Hardcover, bound in recent full cloth; tear to one text leaf with loss; foxing to some plates as usual. Good, solid copy. ~ Revised edition. Translated from the German. Tobler, 183 (1853). The travelogue, reflections, and artistic impressions of Eduard Wilhelm Schulz, Vicar of the Reformed Church of Mulheim on the Ruhr. This copy includes his sermon on the book of Timothy, given in Jerusalem during his pilgrimage in 1851. It was translated from the German and published for the first by the Dutch publisher W. F. Stramrood, in 1854. At that time, the 24-page publication was sold separately at the price of 30 Florin Cents. This copy includes also the lithograph "Vogelperspectief van het Heilige Land" (Bird's-eye View of the Holy Land), printed by F. Böger and published by Stramrood together with a 16-page "Verklaring" (explanatory notes), and was sold separately for the price of one Florin. Both these additions are paginated here consecutively.
