Partecipò alle Cinque giornate di Milano; entrato nella magistratura, compì molti viaggi in Oriente e fu (1874-80) in Egitto come capo divisione presso il ministero della Giustizia. Nel 1881 compì un viaggio da Bengasi a Derna, secondo due diversi itinerarî, e ne stese una relazione che è uno dei migliori lavori sulla Cirenaica prima dell'occupazione italiana. (Treccani)
