1952gb927Le club du livre du mois Cartonnage d'éditeur 1952 "Deuxième et rare édition numérotée publiée au club du livre du mois en 1952, 6 ans après la première publication en France, chez Flammarion, de ce prix Pulitzer, premier roman de l'auteur de Colorado Saga, Hawaï, Alaska pour n'en cité que trois de plus. Au début des années 50 les reliures des ouvrages du Club du livre du mois sont décorés en autre par Alexis Keunen peintre surréaliste Belge. Il a donc effectué pour cet ouvrage le décor de la reliure ainsi que le frontispice. Exemplaire numéroté 625. Le tirage total n'est pas annoncé. Fin 1952 les tirages étaient souvent de 3000 exemplaires. Compte tenu de la rareté de ce titre on peut imaginer que le tirage n'a peut-être pas dépassé les 1000 exemplaires ou qu'il ne s'est pas vendu. Tête de chapitre, cul de lampe. Le club du livre du mois a été créé par Claude Tchou en 1950 quatre ans après le ""club français du livre"" ; très bon état. Livraison a domicile (La Poste) ou en Mondial Relay sur simple demande."

Colour-illustrated softcovers w/ porthole image of the SS Antilles minor creasing to one corner still NF copy. First edition of this marvelously illustrated cutaway deck plan for the SS Antilles which had been completed in 1953 and eventually was placed on the West Indies Cruise service. The SS Antilles or her sister ship the SS Flandre appeared in the stock footge in the 1964 Perry Mason television episode “Nautical Knot†set near Acapulco Mexico. The double-page pictorial map showing her stops in the West Indies was executed by R. Bonnard. The ship hit rocks and caught fire in Lansecoy Bay in 1971 and all were evacuated to the island of Mustique and later rescued by the Queen Elizabeth 2. First editions thus of these travel items to Bermuda in January of 1930 including the passenger list for the RMSP Arcadian which would be taken out of service later that year in October as well as two souvenir travel guides and maps. The RMSP Arcadian was originally built as the HMHS Asurias turned Hospital Ship and torpedoed during World War I and later as ammunition hulk before Royal Mail purchased her back and converted her into the Arcadian in 1923. Trimingham Brothers was a venerable Bermuda department store in Hamilton which sold everything from china to perfume golf shoes to rugs which sadly closed in 2005 due to severely falling sales. Herrington Co. was a very successful publisher of postcards travel guides maps and souvenirs in Bermuda. No copies in Worldcat.
