Small broadside that asks for the revelation of the author of an anonymous offending pamphlet and letter addressed to Isidro Viteri in San Salvador. Beyond the insults that must be corrected in the public record Viteri says that since the author calls him a "antiguo amigo mio" it is only fair that the identity of the provocateur be made known. 19825401Washington DC 1982. About very good. Lithographic poster 34 x 22.75 inches printed on cheap paper. A few small chips and closed tears to edges old folds some light creasing. A striking poster advertising a "Mass Protest" in Washington D.C. in support of El Salvador and "against the Reagan Policy of Oppression at Home and Intervention in the Third World!" The poster is decorated by illustrations of about two dozen helicopters at top but is otherwise comprised of text in variously-sized fonts. The poster was issued by the March 27 Coalition whose sixteen member organizations are listed at the bottom left corner of the poster and include the American Indian Movement Black Veterans for Social Justice People's Anti-War Mobilization Puerto Rico Solidarity Committee Women's Pentagon Action and many others. According to a contemporary article in The Washington Post the protest drew an estimated 23000 demonstrators assembled to protest U.S. policy in El Salvador on the eve of elections in that country. The demonstrators accused the Reagan Administration of supporting a "civilian-military junta in El Salvador that is locked in a war against leftist insurgents." The present poster is a call to action for the protest but also calls for the U.S. to support jobs "human needs" and "Self Determination for the People of Central America and all Oppressed Nations -- No More Vietnam Wars!" The poster also calls for unity against "the Reagan Policy of Oppression at Home and Intervention in the Third World" as well as a call for "No to the Draft! No to Racism! and No to Sexism!" OCLC reports a single record of an El Salvador protest poster from San Francisco in 1981 and a handful of examples of protest posters for El Salvador from later in the 1980s but we could not locate any other copies of this 1982 protest poster. unknown

Mármol 1905-1993 founding father of the Salvadoran Communist Party in 1930 and a leading figure of the Salvadoran worker-revolutionary movement for over five decades told his story over the course of several weeks in 1966 to the Salvadoran communist poet Roque Dalton. In his introduction Dalton who was assassinated in 1973 describes the experience as "one of the greatest satisfactions of my life" and the result was indeed one of the most popular and important works of Latin American revolutionary literature of the decade - Mármol's tumultuous life most of it spent in exile came both to exemplify and inspire the revolutionary movement in El Salvador and Central America.<br /> <br /> Though Miguel Mármol was first published in 1972 and went into numerous subsequent printings in Cuba and the Soviet Union there was no English-language translation until this 1987 edition from the small Latin-American publisher Curbstone. The cloth issue is hard to find and inscribed copies are rare; this a compelling association copy inscribed to the American civil rights leader and Communist Party leader Kendra Alexander 1945-1993 perhaps best-remembered as a close associate of Angela Davis whose Defense Committee she co-chaired during Davis's 1971 conspiracy trial. 59799. Abrams did not state first or later printings during this period but we presume this is a later printing as the Abrams logo on the front panel appears to be that of ca. 1970-74. A slightly shaken copy good or better with general scuffing to the edges especially the corners. Still a crisp sound copy. In a very good dust jacket showing mild edgewear and some scrapes/abrasions to the rear panel which is typical for this title. Nevertheless a fantastic copy SIGNED boldly in purple ink by Dali and dated 1976 on the blank leaf opposite the title page. Final unpaginated leaves are lined blanks headed "Notas/Notes". A similarly titled work was issued by the same organization in 1969. It is unclear if this is an updated version of that and thus a second edition or if it is a new work offered by the same organization. An interesting expat community cookbook issued by an American Methodist church group operating in San Salvador published just a few short years before the onset of El Salvador's Civil War in 1979. The recipes - a mix of local and Anglo-American fare - are attributed and many are quite detailed. There is an interesting section at the front that examines local fruits and vegetables and a very thorough index at the rear. The illustrated cover depicts a woman standing with her back to the reader holding a basket of fruit on her head. Some light staining to edges of text block; small ink squiggle to final pages of notes. Near very good. OCLC locates four copies of this 1976 publication.
