18635734San Salvador 1863. Very good. 4pp. on a bifolium. Folio. Portion of lower margin torn away otherwise light edge wear. A fascinating and rather lengthy anti-Barrios address by his conservative opponents and would-be deposers in El Salvador. José Gerardo Barrios Espinoza was elected president of El Salvador in 1860 following several stints as interim head of state. The present work attacks Barrios' character the "abyss of evils" that he has brought upon the country and compares him unfavorably with every other Central American leader. The final page announces that the signers are joining the invasion of the country by Guatemala and its president Rafael Carrera and defends their choice as one necessary to rid El Salvador of its liberal leader. The Guatemalan and conservative Salvadoran forces succeeded in ousting Barrios in October 1863 nine months after the printing of this document. Very scarce OCLC locates just one copy at the National Library of Chile. unknown
18335752San Salvador 1833. Good plus. Small broadside 8.5 x 6.25 inches. Disbound with small stab hole at gutter margin. Light wear and worming; two slightly larger worm holes in lower margin repaired with tape. Later bibliographical annotations in pencil. In this early Salvadoran broadside decree the government nullifies the appointment of Atanacio Urrutia to the Supreme Court and elevates Jose Felix Quiros in his stead. Printing seems to have arrived in El Salvador during the mid-1820s placing the present work within the first decade of the art there. Evidently rare -- we locate no other copies. unknown

18765735Chalchuapa El Salvador 1876. Still very good. 3pp. on a bifolium. Folio. Crinkling and minor wear at edges. Faint dampstain to upper right corner. The president of Guatemala Justo Rufino Barrios invaded El Salvador in 1876 following the presidential election there. Barrios suspected that both the elected and former presidents had been harboring Guatemalan opponents to his regime and hope to install someone more favorable. The present "political plan" for El Salvador reads more as an indictment of the two leaders Santiago Gonzalez and Andres del Valle than an as organizing document for a new government. The first signer here is Rafael Zaldivar the choice of Barrios for next president of El Salvador and the work was printed in the field at Chalchuapa on April 10 1876 approximately one week before the decisive battles that forced the capitulation of the Salvadoran government. 18613383San Salvador 1861. Good. Broadside 12.5 x 8.5 inches. Old folds minor creasing small marginal tears and marginal chips along edges not affecting text. Lower corner torn away signs of tape repair to verso slightly browned due to paper quality. An evidently unrecorded broadside from El Salvador that thanks the “soldados ciudadanos" for their loyalty to Gerardo Barrios the President of El Salvador from 1859 to 1863. The document also urges these citizens to be prepared to arise from their peaceful existence at any time in order to defend their leader. Barrios was a popular President considered a national hero who improved the education system in El Salvador and worked to lessen the influence of the Catholic Church ordering all priests in El Salvador to swear loyalty to the government. In 1863 he lost his presidency to conservative leader Francisco Dueñas Díaz in a coup after which he fled the country. Barrios was court martialed and beheaded in 1865 when he returned in an attempt to regain power. None in OCLC. unknown
