Frontier of India in the Peshawar District. When the Mutiny broke out he moved upon Lahore & didi effective work against the mutinour Sepoy Regiments & afterwards joined the army before Delhi with the rank of Brigadier General & Major General. Ellenborough's letter 15 lines of text occupies the first leaf; with the pencil draft of Gough's reply also 15 lines with additions and deletions on the recto of the second leaf. Very good with traces of grey paper mount adhering in a thin strip to the reverse of the second leaf. Ellenborough will 'afford' Nichols 'every facility for the making of tracings from the Tiles at Southam'. If Nichols will let him know when he is coming he will 'make it a point to be here'. Suggests that Nichols might come 'after Church about 2 o'clock on Sunday next'. In reply Nichols says he will do himself 'the honour of calling at the hour you name'. Asks Ellenborough to 'give directions to drain & dry' the tiles as they 'have probably become very wet during the last two days' and makes another request relating to them. 17 November 1832; Southam House. unknown

Secret Committee in the subject of the Secret Letters relating to the Treaty with . . .". He continues on the theme concluding that the documents in question had been perused by Lord Clare the intended successor of Sir John Malcolm" Governor of Bombay. 1841 he is trying to arrange a meeting. Note: The India Slavery Act was Ellenborough's major achievement of 1830 so conceivably the subject of te first letter. 19 Sept. 1830 and (30 Oct. 1841). unknown

Macmillan & Co. 29 & 30 Bedford Street Covent Garden later St. Martin's Street London. April 1890 to June 1900. On forms printed in red and black totalling 1p. folio; 40pp. landscape 8vo; 6pp. of which four in landscape 12mo. The seven accounts from Messrs. Macmillan & Co. all relating to 'The Ring of Amasis' are on seven sheets landscape 8vo dating from between 1889 and 1900. The first sheet for the period April 1890 to 30 June 1890 breaks down the sales of the second printing of 2000 copies 128 presented; 628 Sold Royalty at 15% of selling price per copy; 260 America No royalty; 984 On hand 30th June 1890 giving a 'Balance to His Excellency the Earl of Lytton due in January 1891' of £16 9s 9d. The final sheet for the period 1 July 1899 to 30 June 1900 records three copies presented and one copy sold with 637 copies in stock giving a blance due to Lytton of 6d. The accounts from Longmans Green & Co. relate to British and American sales of Lytton's 'Poetical Works' 3 vols; 'Selected Poems'; 'The Wanderer'; 'Personal and Literary Letters'; 'Indian Administration'; 'Lucile'; 'Selected Poems'. The Longmans accounts are more complex and extensive giving detailed breakdowns including costings for paper printing binding and advertising. Following Lytton's death the accounts are made out for his widow the Dowager Countess of Lytton 1841-1936 whose autograph note 'With many thanks for the cheque Edith. Lytton.' is at the head of an account for 1 June 1912. The sums involved are also larger with £232 5s 2d due in the earliest account June 1893. Dating from between 1890 and 1916. He thanks him for his letters and expresses disappointment that he 'could not come to the Cricket Match' which was 'not finished but decided in favour of Knebworth according to the score of the first Innings'. He asks him to obtain 'estimates for lightening sic conductors to each of the 8 turrets at Knebworth'. He fears that 'these copper domes are themselves lightening conductors which are now cut offf from all communcation with the earth'. Without place or date. On his monogrammed letterhead. unknown

On piece of blotting-paper 14 x 13 cm; folded horizontally to make two rectangular leaves each 7 x 13 cm with the signature presented in the centre of the first leaf and with the back leaf laid down neatly on a piece of cream card 14.5 x 17 cm with caption at foot of card: 'ORIGINAL BLOTTING-PAPER IMPRESSION OF SIGNATURE OF EDWARD VII.' Being the result of blotting the impression is a mirror image of the original with the firm signature 6 cm long with a 7.5 cm underlining. On mottled paper with neat vertical fold on left-hand side crossing the underlining of the signature one centimeter from the left. Without date or place. unknown
