El traductor portugués hace, en la extensa introducción de esta rara edición de la célebre novela, un feroz repaso a las sevicias provocadas según él por el colonialismo inglés, incidiendo especialmente en la cuestión irlandesa y en el comercio esclavista. No existe edición española completa de la obra, ya que en 1842 se publicó sólamente el primer tomo bajo el equívoco título de "La cita en el platanal". -
