19301540Havana 1930. 63pp. Small quarto. Original green cloth front board lettered in silver. Cloth and pastedowns separating from boards. Boards lightly rubbed some wear to corners and spine. Scarce issue of the constitution and by-laws of the Havana Country Club printed in Spanish and English on facing pages published in 1930. The country club was established in 1911 after the purchase of a 127-acre property La Finca Lola just outside of the city proper and operated until it was forced to close by the Revolution. Information on the realty company formed to purchase the land and house rules of the club are also printed at the rear. We locate a single copy of a 1937 edition in OCLC. unknown books

Paul Lombard est de ces critiques qui comme l’a montré Thierry Laget Proust Prix Goncourt Gallimard 2019 reprochaient à l’Académie Goncourt d’avoir décerné leur prix à un écrivain trop vieux trop riche : "Au lieu de cela cette année le prix Goncourt … échoit à M. Proust qui n’est pas jeune : il a conquis en peu de jours une notoriété dont j’ignore le secret ; le prix Goncourt même s’il l’a mérité ne lui sera d’aucune utilité" déplore-t-il dans L’Homme libre du 11 décembre 1919 p. 2. 8vo., Second Edition, with engraved frontispiece, title-vignette, 9 engraved plates, engraved map as plate and large folding engraved map at rear, neat contemporary inscriptions on front endpapers; original blue cloth, boards elaborately blocked in blind, back gilt extra, gilt top, yellow endpapers, very neatly recased, a most attractive copy of a very scarce work. With 8pp publisher's catalogue (dated July 1857) bound in at rear. This important account was first published in two volumes in 1855. Both editions are scarce but this is the scarcer. A lovely copy (albeit minimally restored) of an early issue in publisher's original binding. VERY SCARCE IN THIS CONDITION.
1930560Havana Cuba: American Express Co et al. 1930. Small archive of six items from a trip in the early years of the 1930s all good or better. Items include: One forty page brochure in decorated and printed card stock wrappers "CUBA The Pearl of the Antilles" with 16 itineraries and copious pictorial advertisements; two contemporary color picture postcards unused; small brochure folded to make four pages offering visits to "Algibe" Farm the "most typical Cuban Farm in the vicinity of Havana" where you are invited to see how crops are grown attend "Thrilling Cock-Fights at all hours" and "Royal Palm Climbing Exhibitions." Finally a fan-folded invitation to "Buy where Cubans buy" at La Isla de Cuba with an accompanying map 21 x 14 in. dated 1928 of the entire downtown Havana shopping district folded into twelve 7 x 3.75 in. panels with breaks at folds see photo. All good or better with nicks small closed tears and a few smudges. American Express Co, et al. unknown

Bella mappa raffigurante il Golfo del Messico con Florida, Messico e America Centrale, ornata da un bellissimo cartiglio in una cornice floreale. Geografo veneziano di Padova, Rizzi-Zannoni studiò astronomia e fu nominato idrografo navale durante il suo soggiorno in Francia. Fu professore di geografia della Società Cosmografica di Norimberga e membro dell'Accademia di Gottinga. Morì a Napoli nel 1814. Buono stato con contorni acquerellati dell'epoca. Beautiful map depicting the Gulf of Mexico with Florida, Mexico and Central America, adorned with a beautiful cartouche in a floreal frame. Venetian geographer of Padua, Rizzi-Zannoni studied astronomy and was appointed as naval hydrographer during his stay in France. He was professor of geography of the Nuremberg Cosmographic Society and member of the Academy of Göttingen. He died in Naples in 1814. Good condition with watercolors of the time.
