1879021476Chicago: Invitation Committee of the Reception to Gen. U.S. Grant presumed Publisher 1879. Unbound. Good. no date presumed 1879. Single sheet folded into four pages roughly 8 by 5 ½ inches when folded. Printed on the front of the first leaf and bottom half of the second leaf. Ornately decorated title present. An invitation to the Reception to General Ulysses S. Grant given to him in Chicago on the return from his post-presidency world tour. This invitation was addressed to L.L. Mills States Attorney inviting him to take part in the procession on November 12th in honor of General Grant's visit to Chicago. Upon accepting the invitation his position in line would be allotted. Printed signatures of Elliot Anthony and Woodbury M. Taylor present with a list of committee members printed in the interior. The procession presumably preceded the reception at the Palmer House where the Invitation Committee was located. This reception included many speeches honoring President Grant including the finale which was given by Mark Twain. According to accounts a good time was had by all. GOOD condition. Horizontal fold crease present with a 2 ½ inch tear at the fore edge along the fold. Some curling wrinkling and creasing to the piece. General toning minor soiling and staining. A map depicting the railroad lines across the United States and Southern Canada with North and South Dakota still mapped as Dakota. Insets of city maps include Boston New York Chicago St. Louis and others. Reverse with some ads including an illustrated advertisement for die punches for railroad use. Borders outlined in color. FAIR condition. Paper toned with very minor soiling. Thin paper stock being rather brittle. Some creasing and wrinkling present. Many small tears chips and creases at the intersection of the folds with very minor loss in a few sections. Rand McNally and Co unknown

A collection of statements issued by the legislature of Texas rejecting the Wilmot Proviso that would have excluded slavery from territories acquired during the Mexican-American War. The authors consider slavery to be a "domestic institution" of the United States and state that they would "not submit to any law which prohibits the citizens of the southern states from taking their property to any territory which may be acquired from Mexico." The document urges support for the war through tariffs and other means. GOOD condition. Minor to moderate uneven foxing. Some creasing and roughness along the spine edge. Published in the New Hampshire Statesman and State Journal Saturday December 22 1832. Concord New Hampshire: 1832. Vol. II-No.32. Single sheet Page 1 and 2 ONLY of this newspaper printing on the front page almost the entire proclamation by Andrew Jackson lacking the last 1 and ½ paragraphs which would have appeared on the last page of this paper now LACKING. An early printing of this important speech by Jackson declaring that one any one state did not have the authority to annul any federal law of the United States and declaring that South Carolina "stood on the brink of insurrection and treason." Jackson asserted in the speech that no state had the right to secede. This conflict arose from South Carolina's efforts to nullify federal tariffs that it considered were hurting its economy. Both the state and federal government prepared for possible military action to enforce their cause with a compromise eventually reached in 1833. In FAIR condition lacking the aforementioned last paragraphs. Upper left of the sheet torn with LOSS of text along the left margin of the first few paragraphs. Small area torn from the lower left margin not affecting text. General wrinkling and creasing to the paper with a horizontal fold crease present. Minor foxing staining and soiling. Some creasing and minor tearing along the upper edge. Small hole in the center of the paper at the title. No Publisher unknown

A visual documentation of the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago documenting exhibits on electricity mining machinery manufacturing transportation etc. as well as people from different countries. This includes those from Java Fiji Syrians and Egyptians Samoa other people from Asia and Africa etc. GOOD condition. Moderate general fading to the book. Minor to moderate soiling a few minor stains and small areas of discoloration to the covers. Some bumping and fraying to the extremities. Interior solid and clean with the paper toned. Last 35 pages with faint dampstaining along the upper and fore edges resulting in several of the pages being STUCK together in that area although they look to be easily unstuck.
