Detmold plate opposite p. 44 creased else a fine copy protected by the worn but scarce original publisher's box.<br /><br />The gilt cover of this has often been reproduced as an example of Detmold's design work and it has been superbly preserved here inside this box. The delicately colored watercolors done for these plates were some of Detmold's finest work. The flowers here play as important a part in the illustrations as the various species of bees pollinating them. Unusual in this condition particularly with the original box very rarely seen.
