GARNIER, geologo e industriale, dal 1863 al 1867 inventariò i giacimenti mineralogici nella Nuova Caledonia, soprattutto la "garniérite" da cui estrasse e produsse industrialmente. il nickel a Numea e poi dal 1880 con la "Société le Nickel".
