Hannah Neal Hobart Wheeler travelled through Tibet was friends with Prince Aage's wife and was one of the first women to drive across the Sahara. Wheeler was the widow of the Philadelphia "millionaire polo player" Los Angeles Herald and investment banker Charles Wheeler. She travelled across Tibet in the early 1930s accumulating a world-class collection of antiquities then settled on a 700-acre estate on the slopes of Mount Kenya. According to two typescript letters in this copy Wheeler was introduced to Prince Aage in 1937. Wheeler attended Prince Aage's 51st birthday party in Fez in 1938. She also became friends with his second wife Dorothy Gould granddaughter of the railway magnate and financier Jay Gould. In this copy is a loosely inserted manuscript Christmas card from Gould to Wheeler and a tipped-in signed photograph of Gould and Aage. Prince Aage of Denmark 1887-1940 joined the Danish army in 1909. In 1922 he transferred to the French Foreign Legion and was stationed in Morocco.
