Vittorio Beonio Brocchieri (Lodi, 4 maggio 1902 – Milano, 14 aprile 1979) fu un celebre storico, giornalista ed aviatore nella Regia Aeronautica durante la Guerra d'Etiopia. L'opera qui presentata è la relazione di un suo celebre viaggio che portò Boenio-Brocchieri a sorvolare e vistare l'Europa (Berlino, Oslo) ma soprattutto il Medio Oriente (Costantinopoli, Aleppo, Baghdad) e l'Africa (Abissinia, Somalia, Mombasa, Nairobi, Egitto). Prima edizione.

Un aereo a razzo americano, un Bell X-2, pilotato dal capitano Ivan Kincheloe, ha raggiunto l'altezza di 48.000 metri. L'apparecchio, che era applicato sotto la fusoliera di un bombardiere B-50, a quota 10.000 è stato sganciato e ha iniziato il volo superando di 11.000 metri il precedente primato. Il Bell X-2, lo stesso che aveva recentemente vinto il muro di fuoco a 3140 km all'ora, è costruito con leghe resistenti a incredibili pressioni e che non si fondono per il surriscaldamento provocato dall'attrito con l'atmosfera." "Un ballo pericoloso. Uscite dal cinematografo in cui si era proiettato un film americano imperniato sull'ultima danza, il Rock and roll, centinaia di giovani e ragazze invasero le principali vie di Oslo abbandonandosi a incredibili scene di follia.
