xiii, 400 pages. Color plates. Many black and white figures. Bibliography. Index. "The excavations on the site of the city of Nicopolis in northern Bulgaria represent a major research programme carried out to investigate the character of urbanism in Antiquity. The ceramic sequence dates from the early second century AD down to the end of the sixth century and also includes early medieval and post-medieval pottery. The glass report provides a dated sequence of forms, based upon the study of over 7,000 finds ranging from high-quality Roman, late Roman and early Byzantine imports, including a cage-cup (diatretum) and high-quality engraved examples, to common types found throughout the Roman empire. Also discussed is the evidence for glassworking in the ancient city itself". - Dust jacket. Book clean, bright and unmarked with negligible wear. New English Paperback. 4to. (29 x 24 cm). In English and Turkish. 256 p., b/w and color ills. The new exhibition of the Yapi Kredi Culture Arts and Publishing (YKKSY) complex on Istiklal Street is a journey into the memory of a family of three generations of artists over hundred years. Originally from Bulgaria, the Hristoff family first came to Istanbul in 1923, and then immigrated to New York in 1963. The three generations of artists document Istanbul, starting with black and white photographs in the 1920s and 1930s. Peter Dimiter Hristoff was right in the midst of the first days of the Republic, and began collecting ephemera. This habit was continued by his son Dimiter Hristoff and grandson Peter, who is one of the curators of the "Memento Istanbul: Hristoff Family Archive" exhibition. "From Sofia to Paris, from Paris to California, from California to New York," Peter Hristoff, a New York based artist, educator and co-curator of the exhibition says. His great grandfather, an orphan born in the mid 1800s, he says, was raised by a farmer family who called him 'garden boy'... (Source: TRT World).
