At the dedication of the Pioneer Hall of the Society of Calfiornia Pioneers O P Sutton the President of the Society gave the inaugural address. He was one of the Forty-Niners who arrived in San Francisco in 1849. He began work in the mines and after failure returned to the city where he established a mercantile business He participated in the organization of the Democratic Party in California and in 1863 he was elected to the California Legislature. The Oration by Eugene Lies was one of the early settlers of Santa Barbara and he also served in the California Legislature. The book is in good condition with some light dampstaining on pages 25-27.
