It examines the life of the cheerful and remarkably honest native people, the Melanesians, who lived almost precisely the life that their ancestors lived. With sketch maps, showing inhabited and uninhabited villages, as well as Hog Harbour, a village in northeast Santo so-named by explorers who were in awe of the abundance of pigs.
