Reprinted from 1732, Ibrahim Muteferrika Edition. (See Ozege for it's original: 3048.). A very heavy set. Ibrahim Muteferrika printed Katib Celebi's well-known book on geography and cosmography 'Cihannuma' in 1732 by adding a supplement containing new information on astronomy and Ottoman geography and maps, in which he relied mostly on Ebu Bekir b. Behram el-Dimaski's (d. 1691) work on the Cihannuma. The appendix in which Muteferrika explained the 'old' and the 'new' world systems produced by Tycho Brahe, Copernicus and Descartes as well as Galileo's theories of the moving bodies was extracted from Edmond Pourchot's (1651 - 1734) well-known work 'Institutiones philosophicae'. Pourchot himself was a reknowned philosopher and was elected rector of the University of Paris seven times. The text compiled by Muteferrika on the heliocentric system would represent comprehensive Turkish text on this subject for a century. Katip Celebi's book of Cihannuma (Jihannuma. View of the World) is a geographical work that makes the first use, in Turkey, of European atlases and other sources.

Sehr seltener Atlasband zum militärischen Kartenwerk über den napoleonischen Feldzug entlang des Rheins und durch Süddeutschland im Jahr 1796. – Inhalt: Als letzter Generalfeldmarschall des »Heiligen Römischen Reiches Deutscher Nation«, demissionierte Karl nach der vernichtenden Niederlage bei Wagram (1809) und stellte u.a. dieses opulente Kartenwerk zusammen, dem zwischen 1814 und 1819 eine dreibändige Textausgabe folgen sollte. 1862 schließlich gab die österreichischen Staatsdruckerei eine Faksimile-Ausgabe des Werks heraus. – Die 12 von verschiedenen Offizieren gezeichneten und den ersten Stechern ihrer Zeit wie Kilian Pohnheimer gestochenen großformatigen Kupfer zeichnen die 1796 im Rahmen des »Ersten Koalitionskrieges« erfolgten Kampfhandlungen zwischen dem Heer Napoleons und einer europäischen Koalitionsarmee unter der Führung des österreichischen Erzherzogs Karl nach. Die Mappe enthält eine Übersichtskarte mit der Begrenzung durch den Rheinlauf von Basel bis Köln im Westen bzw. Linz und Prag im Osten, ferner eine Karte des Lahn-Sieg-Gebietes, detaillierte Umgebungskarten von Malsch, Rastatt, Neresheim, Amberg, Würzburg, Biberach, Emmendingen, Schliengen, Kehl, Hühningen (in dieser Reihenfolge). – Erhaltung: Mappenrücken fachkundig mit starkem Papier ergänzt, Decken stellenweise etwas fleckig, Ecken und Kanten bestoßen, die auf dickem Papier gedruckten Karten teils gebräunt, gering stock- bzw. schmutzfleckig, Faltstellen außen mit leichten Rissen, insgesamt sauberer Satz. – Seltenheit: Gemäß JAP/APO kamen in den letzten 4 Jahrzehnten lediglich 2 vollständige Exemplare des hier angebotenen Atlasbandes zur Auktion. – Literatur: Holzmann-Bohatta II, 8159; ÖBL zit. Erste Ausgabe der Karte des Hohen Sonnblick in der Goldberggruppe des Alpenhauptkammes, sowie seiner Salzburger und Kärntner Umgebung, kräftig in Blau-und Brauntönen flächenkoloriert. – Inhalt: Das dargestellte Kärntner Gebiet nimmt gut die Hälfte der sauber gearbeiteten topografischen Karte ein und reicht (von Nord nach Süd und West nach Ost) entlang des Mölltals und des Mallnitzer Tals von Heiligenblut, über Mörtschach und Söbriach bis Mallnitz (heutiger Bezirk Spittal an der Drau). Gleichzeitig druckte die Wiener kartografische Anstalt von Gustav Freytag die Karte auch als nicht aufgezogene Beilage zur Zeitschrift des Deutsch-Österreichischen Alpenvereins. 1913 und 1926 erschienen Neuauflagen. – Erhaltung: Leinen stellenweise leicht fleckig, das montierte Titelblatt etwas gebleicht und minimal berieben, Papier etwas gebräunt, sonst wohlerhaltenes, kräftig koloriertes Exemplar. – Seltenheit: Mit Stichtag 8. Juli 2022 ist die Karte in der hier vorliegenden Original-Ausstattung als Einzelausgabe über den OBV lediglich in zwei Exemplaren vorhanden (Wien (ÖNB, UB).
