A first edition copy of 'The Movement' a historical work documenting the African-American struggle for equality during the Civil Rights Movement prepared by the SNCC and written by Lorraine Hansberry. With text written by Lorraine Hansberry this book highlights the 'struggle for the humanization of our country' documenting all aspects of the 'social revolution' from the 'dauntless good humor of a twelve-year-old girl in a Georgia jail' to the 'rage and hatred of a Ku Klux Klansman'. 'The Movement' was prepared with assistance from the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee or the SNCC.Written by Lorraine Hansberry 1930-1965 a playwright and writer who was the first African-American woman to have a play performed on Broadway titled 'Raisin in the Sun'. Hansberry also worked at the Pan-Africanist newspaper 'Freedom' helping to document the African struggle for liberation. With photographs by Danny Lyon an American photographer and filmmaker who was the main photographer for the SNCC and was present for almost all of the major historical events during the Civil Rights Movement. Additional photographs by Bob Adelman Don Charles Frank Dandridge Roy De Carava William DuBois and many more.Collated complete. In the publisher's original cloth binding in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally excellent with just a bit of fading to the margins of boards and the spine.
