Autocar offices in Toulon to take the luxurious 172 mile/277 km scenic automobile excursion along the French Riviera during the Roaring 20’s. Included are photos of the Carnival in Nice the St. Cassien Hermitage beyond Cannes 25 miles; the Antheor Viaduct at Cape Roux 42 miles; the newly opened Le Rayol health and seaside resort developed by Company Entreprise Immobiliere 90 miles and more. P.L.M. was the most important railway for tourists in France and heavily investedin their network of hotels automobile tours and railways along the Mediterranean and through the Alps transforming Southern France into a fashionable international tourist destination. 1928179011France: 1928. An example of a charming pamphlet advertising the Grand Hotel Du Cap Martin on the French Riviera. The brochure contains aerial views of the hotel and surrounding area and lists the amenities patrons would enjoy such as tennis courts swimming pools and a private beach. The Grand Hotel Du Cap Martin was designed in the late-19th century by the architect Hans-Georg Tersling 1857-1920 after being commissioned by the Black & White Whiskey Company. The hotel became a tourist destination for royals and the upper echelon of society with Franz Joseph I of Austria staying at the hotel four times. His wife Empress Elisabeth of Austria lived in the hotel during the last few years of her life. The hotel served as a hospital during the First World War and reopened as a hotel in 1919 but a series of fires water damage and bombings in the Second World War led to the building being converted into flats in 1959. Quarto pamphlet concertina-style. With blue-tinted heliogravure photographs on recto half-tone photos on verso panelled in gilt. Damp staining along top edge a little rubbing.
