Original scarce FIRST ISSUE of the William and Mary College Monthly magazine. Running from 1890 to 1903 this periodical was rather short lived. As this was the first issue much is devoted to descriptions of the College in general. Features as eight page section on "The Growth of Science" that highlights the ongoing work and dangers of lighting New York City and other metropolitan areas. Also includes articles on the Y.M.C.A and the place of William and Mary in the new Era. Articles by members of the Philomathean and Phoenix literary societies. Engraved ads for several Williamsburg and Richmond businesses fill the last five pages plus inside rear cover. Some rubbing to covers and light wear to edges. Top corner creased at rear.
