In Untersuchungen über die Histogenese und Histomechanik des Blutgefässsystems 1893 fasst Thoma seine Forschungsergebnisse zusammen. Er unterscheidet dabei zwischen primärem Gefäßwachstum und Gefäßwachstum durch Sprossung die Bildung neuer Kapillaren aus präexistenten Kapillaren. Neben verschiedenen mikroskopischen Techniken erfand Thoma ein Verfahren mit dem das spezifische Gewicht des Blutes bestimmt werden konnte Picnometer. Thoma entwarf eine spezielle Apparatur für Vitalmikroskopie die Untersuchungen über die Physiologie und Pathologie der terminalen Blutstrombahn ermöglichte. In den 1870er Jahren entwickelte Thoma ein Gerät zur Herstellung hauchdünner histologischer Paraffinschnitte zur mikroskopischen Begutachtung. 1881 stellte er eine Apparatur zur Zählung von roten und weißen Blutkörperchen in definierten Blutvolumina vor. 1897 beschrieb er ein automatisiertes Verfahren zur Gewebeeinbettung.7 unknown

Typewritten letter on official letterhead for the League of American Pen Women from "Sister Annie" i.e. Anne Bozeman Lyon of Mobile Alabama to Mrs. Herbert Harrington dated May 29th 1918. The writer relays personal news Frederick has recovered from an illness your son Harold has a big heart and will be missed when he leaves for war etc. Written before the end of the war in November of that year the postscript here reads "It has just struck twelve—in a few moments the soldiers will go to the train escorted by the Red Cross contingency here. Believe me I can't keep the tears when I think of Harold the recipient's soldier son and how proud you'd be of him. In spirit I am with you at this moment just as I know your great mother soul is here in Mobile with your baby. What a hideous coil it all is—the world at war! May Christ lead us to higher better things when it all ends." Single leaf of letterhead 11" by 8.5" envelope measures 3.5" by 5.75" with ink revision to typewritten address. Postmarked and stamped. Anne Bozeman Lyon 1860-1936 was a prominent Southern writer from Mobile Alabama who penned novels articles columns and poetry earning her a place in the 1893 biographical dictionary "A Woman of the Century". By 1918 she had joined the National League of American Pen Women providing the letterhead here. unknown

The poems are about refusing to eat camping out and our pets; "Che the hunter Terror of mice Does many things That are not very nice%u201D. Things like that. I have also put some color around the pictures to keep things cheery.I would only add this. I am almost certain that next year 1986 Aperture will re-issue The Bikeriders. At the same time my first feature length film WILLIE will be released. I think that the attention paid to these two works might help sell the children's book." NOTE: It would take Lyon four more years before he was able to release his children's book. Both items on 'Bebe' letterheads and both with signature 'Bebe' incorporating a drawing of a stick figure with hat. Letter One: 12mo 1 p. Twelve lines. Good on lightly-aged paper. With addressed envelope. She is sorry they missed one another 'at the station especially after all the trouble you went through to get there'. Gives news of show: 'Boy it will be good to get back to town again. I have enjoyed the tour but as you know travelling nowadays isn't what it used to be by a long shot.' Letter Two: 8vo 1 p. 21 lines. She makes an excuse for not meeting: 'I was feeling so ill that I just had to get home right after the show and you are so sweet that I knew you would understand.' Suggests supper 'at the Jewish Restaurant you were telling Ben about'. Of an injury to Colleano's finger she writes 'Anyway it gave you a chance to sing!'.
