The english translation of this work is thought to have influenced a English essayist during Queen Anne's reign. La Bruyere used his translation of Theophrastus as an introduction to his ironic spirited essays on the follies and social injustices of his age as observed by him at the French court. In this work Bruyere also comments on literary subjects and certain authors. He was elected to the French academy in 1693. His election was thought to be a victory for the Ancients against the Moderns.

Please feel free to view our pictures of this lovely set in excellent condition. Ships daily.
