Cartiglio con titolo al margine basso dello stampa. Magnifica e vivida tiratura di questa celeberrima carta del territorio delle coste francesi e meridionali inglesi che illustra il percorso delle flotte inglesi e francesi che si sarebbero poi scontrare nella celeberrima battaglia, avvenuta durante la Guerra dei Sette Anni, nella Baia di Quiberon il 20 novembre del 1759, battaglia che è rappresentata appunto nel lato sinistro della carta. Lo scontro fra le flotte francese ed inglese si svolse presso la baia di Quiberon, vicino a Saint-Nazaire, di fronte al Golfo di Morbihan. La flotta francese era comandata dall'ammiraglio Hubert de Brienne, conte di Conflans e quella britannica, dall'ammiraglio Edward Hawke. La battaglia terminò con una netta vittoria della squadra navale britannica. "La potenza della flotta francese fu fortemente compromessa e non si riprese prima della fine della guerra; nelle parole di Alfred Thayer Mahan (L'influenza del potere navale nella storia), la battaglia del 20 novembre 1759 «…fu la Trafalgar di quella guerra […] la flotta inglese era ora in grado dii agire contro le colonie della Francia e più tardi di quelle della Spagna, su scala molto maggiore che mai prima.» Per esempio la Francia non poteva approfittare della sua vittoria di Sainte-Foy del 1760, nella terra che è oggi il Canada, poiché là necessitava di rifornimenti e rinforzi dalla Francia, e così la battaglia della baia di Quiberon può essere vista come l'evento che determinò il destino della Nuova Francia e quindi del Canada". La carta fu stampata dal successore e cognato del grande cartografo Matthaus Seutter (sposò una delle figlie di Seutter), il cartografo, editore ed incisore Tobias Conrad Lotter (1717 - 1777). Lotter, si formò alla bottega di Matthaus Seutter per il quale lavorò. Alla morte di Seutter ne rilevò l’attività che portò avanti fino al 1777 anno della sua morte. L’attività passo poi al figlio, Matthias Albrecht Lotter. Tobias Conrad fu uno dei più apprezzati cartografi del settecento. Il disegnatore della carta in questione è il cartografo Christian Friederich van der Heyden Lotter, l’incisore è Matthew Albrecht. Esemplare in ottime condizioni di conservazione ed in bella coloritura coeva.

The story of a group of Canadian Army officers who volunteered to serve in the British Army in Europe between D-Day, 1944, and V-E Day, 1945, in a scheme called CANLOAN. Author was one of the participants and has based this work upon research supplemented by the recollections of survivors. A vivid account both of the experiences of the CANLOAN officers and of the scheme itself, from the initial concept to its realization. Presents slit-trench views of the battles in Normandy, Arnhem, Italy, the Rhineland and beyond the Rhine. Covers the role of the platoon commander in battle, the experiences of prisoners of war, the wounded, and the 50 Ordnance Corps volunteers who with 623 junior infantry officers made up CANLOAN. This copy appears to have come from a low circulation library, perhaps in a senior's home. Stickers have been removed from dust jacket and their former presence is nearly invisible. Otherwise, dust jacket remains very attractive and shows only light wear. Prior owner's address label and three small library stamps upon decorated front endpaper. No other markings to book which is clean and bears light wear. Blue boards decorated with gilt. A lovely copy. Book

Il décrit ce général comme impitoyable. De Campion s'attacha au duc de Beaufort. Compromis en 1643 avec le duc de Beaufort dans le complot contre la vie de Mazarin au cours de la Cabale des Importants, il quitta la France pendant quatre ans, puis se rapprocha un peu plus du duc de Longueville, avec lequel il rentra en grâce en France et fit, avec le titre de colonel, la campagne de 1651 à 1654 en Lorraine et en Picardie. À la suite de cette campagne, il se retira dans ses terres de Bosc Féret au Thuit-de-l'Oison et y écrivit ses Mémoires. Cet ouvrage intéressa le public si bien qu'en 1807,cette nouvelle édition originale fut publiée & annotée par le Général de GRIMOARD

Son fils, Charles René (Paris, 24/02/ 1640 - Paris, 13/02/ 1732) l'aida dans ses recherches, lui succéda dans la charge de juge d'armes et fut nommé généalogiste du roi. Ce sont Louis Pierre, d'HOZIER, (1685-1767), neveu de Charles René d'Hozier, juge d'armeset son fils, Antoine Marie d'HOZIER de SERIGNY(Paris, 1721, mort 1801)qui rédigèrent 'Armorial de France en 10 volumes de 1738 à 1768
