With the engraved bookplates of C J Peacock and Alfred Pounder on front paste-down and front free endpaper respectively. The engraved county maps by Hall (of Cornwall, Devonshire, Dorsetshire and Hampshire) are unusually crisp and clean. A previous owner has encased the cloth covers in clear plastic. Lovely copy of the corrected and expanded version of the original edition of 1855. SCARCE, ESPECIALLY IN THIS CONDITION.

Some light soiling bumped corners tiny dents in edges. <br/><br/>Most of Barry Cornwall's verse was composed between 1815 when he began to contribute to the Literary Gazette and 1823 or at the latest 1832 when this collection was published. Rather unknown outside Britain in his times and largely considered to be an imitator of greater romantic poets he was nevertheless regarded quite highly during his own lifetime. Good. <p>Earl Robinson writes in his one-page introduction: "This booklet 'America Sings' is a compilation of fifty songs old and new which have been and are being sung in the American labor movement." No music is included. Robinson says that readers will know the tunes and that most of them can be found in another Workers Book Shop publication "Songs of the People". A brief note gives the origin of each song. Among the contents are Maurice Sugar's well-known labor anthem "Sit Down".<p>The Workers Book Shop was a center for The Communist party in America.<p>Rare.
