Novel about "a winter a spring and a summer in the lives of three young Welshmen" with particular focus on their sexual adventuring. The first of five novels published by this Welsh author 1920-1997 a one-time coal miner in his native Rhondda Valley whose fiction portrayed the daily struggle for survival among society's "have-nots." Although his work was largely neglected during his lifetime -- he never earned enough from his writing to be financially secure sustaining himself with a variety of jobs carpenter swimming pool manager etc. -- he has been posthumously "discovered" with one result being that his books are all pretty hard to find today. .
