Ivo Bishop of Chartes was an important canon lawyer who played a key role in the resolution of the investiture crisis. The most significant conflict between church and state in the medieval era it concerned the authority of European monarchs to control the appointments or investitures of bishops abbots and other church officials. This collection of 285 opinions or "letters" discusses legal aspects of political institutional and religious subjects. Several deal with the investiture crisis and its background. Other editions were published in 1585 and 1610 the latter designated "Editio Secunda." OCLC locates a handful of copies in North America 1 in a law library UC-Berkeley which has a 1610 edition.
