Una manoscritta datata, Roma 28 aprile 1959, di 22 righe fronte retro, in chiara grafia dove il Monteverdi comunica la data d'arrivo in treno a Losanna. L'altra lettera, dattiloscritta, datata Roma 8 maggio 1959, di 14 righe, in cui si scusa per il mancato viaggio e per le mancate conferenze a causa di un "risentimento pleurico".

Scopo della Camerata de' Bardi famoso gruppo fiorentino di musicisti filosofi e scienziati era riportare alla luce la musica dell'antica Grecia così affascinante oltre che per i primi esempi di spettacolo teatrale nella storia dell'umanità e per il commovente tentativo dell'uomo di rappresentare sé stesso con i suoi pregi e i suoi difetti e di imparare dai propri errori, anche per i valori di civiltà educazione ed etica finalizzati alla formazione del buon cittadino attribuiti alla musica. Questo è l'aspetto forse più affascinante della lontana cultura greca. Fin dal medioevo con la teoria modale, al rinascimento con le teorie neoplatoniche e al barocco con la monodia accompagnata tutta l'invenzione musicale trae spunto dalla speculazione musicale sul mondo greco. La pratica del recitar cantando e lo stile rappresentativo nascono infatti (per rimanere in un linguaggio metaforico) dall'energia propulsiva data dalla volontà di far rivivere la tragedia greca ad opera dei Bardi. Quasi cinquant'anni dopo l'attività di questo gruppo Claudio Monteverdi compositore che si dedicava principalmente all'imitazioni delle passioni dell'animo umano (teoria degli affetti )
