Grazie agli interventi di restauro condotti fra il 2007 e 2011, e che hanno interessato l'intero complesso (organo, cassa, intagli, ante, tribuna) il monumentale organo della basilica di Carignano a Genova e i raffinati elementi decorativi che lo impreziosiscono sono stati riportati nelle migliori condizioni di funzionamento e di visibilità, offrendo l'occasione di impiegare - specialmente per la parte decorativa - tecniche di restauro innovative utilizzate per la prima volta. Nel volume, oltre alla parte dedicata alle vicende storiche svoltesi nell'arco di tre secoli e mezzo, testimoniate da un ampio e pressoché inedito corpus documentario, è trattato in modo dettagliato ogni singolo intervento, supportato dalle rispettive relazioni comprendenti rilievi, grafici, schede e analisi chimiche riferite ai metalli, essenze lignee e cromie impiegati nella realizzazione dei molteplici elementi strutturali.
