The first issue of Violins appeared in March 1938 and in October the name was changed to Violins and Violinists; it ceased publication in December 1960. In addition to information on violin performances and performers the magazine carried detailed and informative essays on classic violin makers of the past; the best known of these were Doring's long articles which were published in book form as How Many Strads Chicago 1945 and The Guadagnini Family of Violin Makers Chicago 1949."
