Pages are 13 by 9 inches. 30 double paged plates which are about 18 by 13 inches of plants flowers trees fruits nuts mushrooms. 12 pp of text. Plates are magnificent and frameable quality. Book is tight and pages clean with typical and inevitable toning given the paper stock which is not commensurate with the beauty of the illustrations as was the case with all the Schreiber plate books of this era. Minor soilage on cover illustrated paste down -- illustration is still bright. Some shelfwear to boards. Small tear in upper right corner of title page where there had been a stamp mark of some kind. He was influenced by the Nature philosophy of Schelling and reacted strongly against a purely materialistic approach to the sciences. He expressed this in his early work Ansichten von der Nachtseite der Naturwissenschaften 1808. Schubert Gotthilf Heinrich von Hohenstein Saxony 1780-1860 Laufzorn Bavaria abandoned the study of theology at Leipzig University and turned to medicine and the natural sciences moving later to Jena. In 1819 was appointed to the chair of natural sciences at Erlangen University. In 1827 he moved to Munich University becoming a member of the Munich Academy. He was ennobled in 1853. </em> unknown

The plates are held in the binding by hinges and a few of the plates have been re-set / reinforced in position. Overall an excellent example. 320 by 210mm 12½ by 8¼ inches. Intended for the visual instruction of young people in schools and families. From the series: "Naturgeschichte des Tier- Pflanzen- und Mineralreichs in kolorirten Bildern nebst erläuterndem." . Première édition. 16 pages de texte 1 table des matières et 30 doubles pages de photos en couleurs. Dos en lin rouge et couverture lithographiée. En très bon état avec quelques marques et frottements seulement. Les coins sont légèrement abîmés. Une petite zone sur la couverture avant avec une ancienne réparation de ruban adhésif pas particulièrement visible. A l'intérieur les trente planches sont en très bon état. Légèrement assombries sur les bords seulement. Les planches sont maintenues dans la reliure par des charnières et quelques planches ont été remises en place / renforcées dans leur position. Dans l'ensemble il s'agit d'un excellent exemplaire. 320 x 210 mm 12½ x 8¼ pouces. Destiné à l'enseignement visuel des jeunes dans les écoles et les familles.
