Un giovane, Schippers, certo: perché non ha mai conosciuto la vecchiaia, perché la gattopardiana "signora con la veletta", la Morte, l'ha ghermito anzitempo. Un direttore d'orchestra il cui battito - del cuore e del tempo - è ormai cenere chiusa in quella cassetta, incastonata nelle pietre di Piazza del Duomo, a Spoleto.
