A su muerte en 1817 ostentaba los cargos de impresor de la Marina de la Curia Eclesiástica del Tribunal del Santo Oficio e impresor de la Cámara del Rey.José Severino Boloña sustituyó a su padre en el oficio con un gran espÃritu de superación e ideas revolucionarias para su época que lo llevaron a convertirse en el impresor más sobresaliente del siglo xix en Cuba.</p><p>Su taller era de los más modernos y sus impresiones podÃan competir con las realizadas en Europa. De sus prensas salieron obras muy relevantes como <em>Teatro histórico jurÃdico y polÃtico-militar de la Isla Fernandina de Cuba </em>1789 de Ignacio José de Urrutia uno de nuestros primeros libros de historia. En 1797 publicó el estudio de Tomás Romay sobre el vómito negro y ese mismo año imprimió la primera defensa de la cirugÃa publicada en Cuba realizada por el médico español Francisco Javier de Córdova.</p><p> A José Severino Boloña se le debe la impresión de la primera novela cubana <em>El espetón de oro</em> de Cirilo Villaverde y la publicación del periódico <em>La Mujer Constitucional</em> entre 1820 y 1823 cuyo lema era "No siempre las mujeres han de tratar de dijes y alfileres"</p> Oficina de don jose bolona hardcover

He apologises for late reply but has had an "unprecedently busy period with an awful number of dots to get on the paper against deadlines but too many journeys overseas taking up too much time! I wish there were more people who had the courage to write music for their own school - & it's typical that it's in your care an art-design man & not a music specialist! If the 2 Fiddlers in my way then I'm very gratified. Since then I wrote an opera for primary children on the Cinderella story but changed quite a lot so that it's pointed & funny a short music-theatre piece for young primaries 'The Rainbow' & just now 'Songs of Hoy' for the school on this island involving all the kids who only have music instruction once a week from a specialist who comes by boat from Stromness weather permitting - quite a challenge. Indeed I'd be very pleased to see a copy of the new opera. Again thank you for taking time & trouble to write. Such letters mean a lot! ."
